Though about 40% of the world’s workforce is women, according to data from the Inter-Parliamentary Union, only 25.1% of all national parliamentarians were female as of 1 October 2020. Because Zonta International believes that young women are the key to women’s advancement in the field of public service, it offers the Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA) Award, which recognizes young women, ages 16-19, for demonstrating leadership skills and commitment to public service and civic causes, and encourages them to continue their participation in public and political life.
Women, aged 16-19 on 1 April each year, studying at a secondary school, college or university in a Zonta district/region, or who are studying elsewhere but are citizens of a Zonta country, who demonstrate evidence of the following, are eligible to apply.
Applications begin at the local club level. Recipients of the Zonta Newport Harbor YWPA Scholarship receive $1,000 and are then promoted to the district level.
Our club application is currently open, with all applications due by March 19th.
***DEADLINE EXTENDED FROM MARCH 1ST TO MARCH 19TH***.
Please download the application and instructions below for more information and details about how to apply.

Applications open at the beginning of 2021.
The Amelia Earhart Fellowships are given out at Zonta International level only. The individual clubs do not award these fellows. Each year the Zonta “Areas” host an Amelia Earhart Luncheon to honor local AE Fellowship winners. The Zonta Club of Newport Harbor is part of Zonta District 9, Area 4
